Calgary Foundation · Regional
Julia Turnbull Leadership Award
About this award
Get $1,500 for your first year of university if you are a graduating Grade 12 student from a Calgary public, Catholic, or Charter school with a strong leadership record — apply by May 30, 2026.
You can win one of four or more awards valued at $1,500 each. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a high school senior who spends your time leading others and volunteering in your community. You must apply by May 30, 2026. When you apply, ask Calgary Foundation how and when you will hear back — whether it is by email, phone, or through their portal. Selection criteria aren't published — ask Calgary Foundation how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. The money is applied directly to your tuition. Confirm with Calgary Foundation if the funds go straight to your school's financial office or if there is another process. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you are counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Calgary Foundation whether it is a one-time payment or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Winners instead describe the specific impact they had, such as how many students they helped or a project they started from scratch.
List your specific roles in student government or debate clubs to prove your engagement.
The biggest mistake is providing a generic letter from a teacher who barely knows you.
Winners instead choose a mentor who can give concrete examples of your initiative.
Ask your referee to highlight a specific time you led a team to success.
