About this award

$750/year (up to $3,000 lifetime) non-repayable scholarship for Saskatchewan Grade 12 graduates attending Saskatchewan post-secondary institutions. Auto-considered when you apply for Saskatchewan Student Aid — no separate application needed.

The Saskatchewan Advantage Scholarship (SAS) is a Province of Saskatchewan non-repayable scholarship for SK Grade 12 graduates pursuing post-secondary studies in Saskatchewan. The award pays $750 per year, with a $3,000 lifetime maximum — meaning a typical student can receive the full $3,000 over four years of post-secondary study. Critically, SAS is auto-considered when you apply for Saskatchewan Student Aid — there is no separate application. You can also decline the loan portion of SK Student Aid and still receive the SAS grant if you don't need the loan, making this a useful avenue for SK students who want non-repayable aid only. The scholarship requires you to study at a Saskatchewan post-secondary institution; the limited exceptions are Lakeland College (which has campuses in both Alberta and Saskatchewan) and certain health-sector seats outside Saskatchewan. Combined with the Saskatchewan Student Aid integrated package and the Graduate Retention Program (a post-graduation tax credit), SAS is one component of a multi-mechanism support system for SK students who study and remain in Saskatchewan.

More details

Strategy

Apply for Saskatchewan Student Aid even if you don't intend to take loans — the SAS grant is auto-considered through the same application, and you can decline the loan portion while keeping the grant.

Strategy

Six weeks before classes start is the recommended timing for SK Student Aid.

Strategy

The $750/year × $3,000 lifetime cap means most undergraduates earn the full amount over four years; college / trades programs of fewer years receive proportionally less but still benefit.

Strategy

If you're considering studying outside Saskatchewan, you typically lose SAS eligibility — Saskatchewan Student Aid loans/grants follow you out-of-province but SAS specifically does not.

Strategy

Worth weighing in your post-secondary location decision.
