About this award

You can receive $8,100 through this scholarship. This is a grant, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. The fund is used each year to offer one or more scholarships to qualifying students. This is for you if you are a Canadian Indigenous graduate student who is deeply involved in supporting your community through volunteer work or leadership roles. You must apply by September 20, 2026. When you apply, ask University of Manitoba, Faculty of Architecture how and when you'll hear back — whether it is by email, phone, or through a student portal. Selection criteria aren't published — ask University of Manitoba, Faculty of Architecture how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask University of Manitoba, Faculty of Architecture during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with University of Manitoba, Faculty of Architecture whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Tips for applying

  • Community WorkAvoid just listing the names of organizations where you volunteered. Instead, use your 250-word statement to describe the specific impact your work had on the community. Detail one project where your effort led to a real result.
  • Letter of IdentityAvoid giving vague answers about your connection to your community. Instead, be specific about which Indigenous community you belong to and how that identity shapes the way you approach architectural design.
  • StrategyEnsure your letter explicitly answers all four required questions about your identity and community plans. Double-check that your written statement stays under the 250-word limit to show you can follow technical directions.
  • RealismSince this award requires both a specific GPA and a proven track record of community service, it is a targeted scholarship. Focus your energy on highlighting your cultural contributions alongside your academic success.
