About this award

You can receive a one-time payment of $1,000. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a first- or second-year post-secondary student in British Columbia with lived or living experience of mental health challenges, enrolled in a trades program (such as carpentry, cooking or welding) or a program related to fitness, nutrition and the outdoors (such as sport management or natural sciences). Applications for the 2026 CMHA (Canadian Mental Health Association) British Columbia scholarship and bursary awards have closed. The awards are offered each year, so check CMHA British Columbia's page for when the next round opens. Only electronic submissions are accepted. Selection criteria aren't published — ask CMHA British Columbia how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask CMHA British Columbia during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. If you win, you must wait two years before reapplying, which makes you eligible again in the third year after winning. You can apply for only one CMHA British Columbia award in a given year.
