About this award

You can receive one (1) scholarship of $5,000. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are an Indigenous student with any Indigenous affiliation who is pursuing an undergraduate degree in the real estate sector, the attractions and hospitality sector, or the shared services sector (which includes human resources, legal, communications, marketing, or IT). Deadlines come around three times a year on August 1, November 1 and February 1, so aim for whichever one is next. When you apply, ask Indspire (the organization managing the funding) how and when you will hear back—whether by email, phone, or through their portal. Selection criteria aren't published — ask Canada Lands Company how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask Canada Lands Company during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Canada Lands Company whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be an undergraduate Indigenous student with any Indigenous affiliation. You must be attending a post-secondary institution in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Ontario, or Québec. Preference will be given to students studying in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Québec, or Nova Scotia. Your program of study must be in the Real Estate Sector, the Attractions/Hospitality Sector, or the Shared Services Sector (including HR, Legal, Communications/Marketing, or IT).
