About this award

No fixed dollar amount is posted for the partial reimbursements. Through a separate stream run with the College of Nurses of New Brunswick (CNNB), a number of New Brunswick nurses who are CNNB members can get a full reimbursement. More than 50 certification awards are given out each year to help you cover the cost of your initial or renewal certification application. As these are reimbursements, this money is yours to keep and you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a registered nurse who has just written or renewed a specialty exam and wants to advance your professional practice. You must apply between October 15 and January 15. You will be notified in April if you have won, and the award is mailed out in June. Selection criteria aren't published — ask Canadian Nurses Foundation how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Canadian Nurses Foundation whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. You must be writing the CNA (Canadian Nurses Association — the national professional body for nurses) certification exam, certification renewal exam, or certification by continuous learning, and complete it successfully within the year you apply. The official page still refers to the 2025 exam, so confirm the exam year for the round that opens October 15. You must be certified in one of the CNA 22 specialties or areas of nursing practice. You cannot be receiving financial support from any other source to pay for the exam fee. For the CNNB (College of Nurses of New Brunswick — the regulatory body for nurses in New Brunswick) Certification Awards, you must be a Registered Nurse in New Brunswick and a CNNB member.
