About this award

You can receive a $250 prize. There are two of these awards available. As a prize, this money is yours to keep and you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are an Indigenous student who has excelled in introductory language courses. You must apply by March 1, 2027. Selection for this prize will happen in May 2027. When you apply, ask The University of Winnipeg how and when you will be notified of the result. Winners are chosen based on who has the highest GPA (Grade Point Average — the average of all your final grades) among those who meet the credit requirements. Ask The University of Winnipeg how many students typically qualify for these prizes so you can judge your odds. Ask The University of Winnipeg during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with The University of Winnipeg whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be an Indigenous student. Specifically, one prize goes to an Ojibwe student who has completed the first six (6) credits of introductory-level Ojibwe, and one prize goes to a Cree student who has completed six (6) credits of introductory-level Cree. If you have not self-identified as either Cree or Ojibwe, you may still qualify as an Indigenous student who has completed the required credits. The prizes are awarded to the students with the highest GPA.
