About this award

You can receive up to $3,571.06. As a bursary, this money is yours to keep — there is nothing to repay. This is for you if you are a Métis student who has shown financial need and is pursuing your studies in the arts. You must apply by November 9, 2026. When you apply, ask OCAD University how and when you will hear back — whether it is by email, the portal, or phone. OCAD University says its bursaries are given out based on financial need and the number of students who apply. Ask OCAD University's financial aid office how many students usually apply, so you can judge your odds. Ask OCAD University during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with OCAD University whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be a Métis student and an Indigenous student who is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person (someone with refugee or protected-person status in Canada). You must be a resident of Ontario and enrolled in full-time or part-time undergraduate studies at OCAD University. You must also be an Indigenous Visual Culture major. A preference will be given to a Métis student pursuing research in the area of Indigenous Visual Culture.

This is what the award's official page said when we last checked. Rules change, so confirm on the award's official page before you apply.

Tips for applying

  • SupportAvoid using a general character reference. Instead, ask a professor in the Indigenous Visual Culture department to speak to your academic focus. Ensure they mention your specific research interests.
  • StrategyAvoid ignoring the preference clause. Instead, highlight any research you are doing in Indigenous Visual Culture in your application. Explicitly connect your coursework to this field.
  • RealismAvoid assuming the full amount is guaranteed. Instead, remember that the payout depends on your financial need and how many other students apply. Plan your budget with a conservative estimate.
