About this award

You can receive one of 200 entrance scholarships. The values include $10,000 over four years, $8,000 over four years, or one-year scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a high school student with a strong talent for mathematics and a desire to study in a rigorous academic environment. An application is not required, so there is no scholarship deadline: you are considered when you apply for admission. Ask University of Waterloo how and when you'll hear back. Scholarship decisions are based on a combination of your averages, the AIF (Admissions Information Form — a document where you share your achievements and experiences), and math contest results. Ask University of Waterloo during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with University of Waterloo whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be a current high school student admissible to the Faculty of Mathematics (Computing and Financial Management and Software Engineering are not eligible). If you are attending secondary school in Ontario, you must write the Euclid Mathematics Contest at your regular school for the Admissions and Scholarship Committees to consider your score.

How to apply

  1. Read the award's official page

  2. Check this year's deadline

We don't have a confirmed date for this round. The award's official page will have it.

Tips for applying

  • Math ContestsAvoid skipping the Canadian Senior Mathematics Contest or the Euclid Mathematics Contest. Instead, write at least one of these to improve your chances, as they are required for some scholarship decisions. Contact your math teacher or guidance counsellor to register.
  • StrategyAvoid focusing only on your grades. Instead, balance your high averages with strong contest results and a detailed AIF to show the committee you are a well-rounded mathematician.
  • RealismAvoid assuming that admission to the Faculty of Mathematics automatically brings a scholarship. Instead, remember that there are 200 awards available among all admissible students, so treat this as a competitive process.
