You can receive one of up to 5 scholarships valued at $25,000 each. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. The funding is for your first year only. This is for you if you are an international student who is passionate about becoming a scientist and has the academic record to match. The most recent deadline was February 13, 2026, and that window has closed. When you apply, ask how and when you'll hear back — email, portal, or phone. Winners are chosen based on a combination of your academic excellence (you must meet the minimum admission average for your specific program) and your application statements. Selection criteria aren't published in detail — ask University of Waterloo how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. The money is divided and paid in equal instalments during the 1A and 1B study terms. Ask University of Waterloo during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. To keep the funding, you must maintain full-time enrolment in degree studies in the Faculty of Science and continue to pay international tuition fees.
You must be an international fee-paying student entering Year One of any full-time undergraduate degree program in the Faculty of Science at the University of Waterloo (the Waterloo Medical Sciences/SGU Doctor of Medicine pathway is excluded). Scholarships are awarded only after you receive an offer of admission. You must also meet the minimum admission average required by your specific program.
