About this award

You can receive $3,500. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a dedicated electrical student who has already put in the work through your second year of study and wants to build a professional career in the electrical industry. You must apply by June 11, 2027. The application window opens on February 25, 2027. When you apply, ask Hammond Power Solutions (through the Electro-Federation Canada scholarship program) how and when you will hear back — whether it is by email, phone, or through the application portal. Selection criteria aren't published — ask Hammond Power Solutions (through the Electro-Federation Canada scholarship program) how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. There is only 1 scholarship available. Ask Hammond Power Solutions (through the Electro-Federation Canada scholarship program) during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Hammond Power Solutions (through the Electro-Federation Canada scholarship program) whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. You must be currently enrolled in an approved post-secondary electrical program and have completed at least your 2nd year of study in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, Electrical Technician, Electrical Technologist, Industrial Electrician, or be working towards completing an electrical apprenticeship. You need a minimum cumulative average of 75% to be considered. A preference will be given to you if you commit to your industry through active membership in professional associations such as EFC (Electro Federation Canada — the national association for the electrical distribution industry), OACETT (the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists), PEO (Professional Engineers Ontario — the regulator for professional engineers in Ontario), IEEE (the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), or CIGRE (the International Council for Large Electric Systems), or if you demonstrate active leadership in your school or community.

Tips for applying

  • ProfessionalismAvoid simply mentioning you are interested in the industry. Instead, show your commitment by joining a professional association like EFC (Electro Federation Canada) or IEEE (the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). List your specific membership number or join date in your application.
  • LeadershipAvoid giving a vague list of clubs you joined. Instead, describe one specific time you led a project or helped others in your school or community. Focus on the result of your leadership.
  • RealismAvoid assuming you will win because you meet the basic requirements. Instead, remember that only 1 scholarship is available for all eligible Canadian students. Apply early and ensure every detail of your leadership and professional involvement is documented.
