About this award

You can receive one of 10 awards valued at $5,000 each. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. Along with the money, you will be offered a paid developmental work term with Hydro One. This is for you if you are a woman-identifying student pursuing an engineering degree who is passionate about supporting younger girls through outreach and volunteering. You must apply by November 1, 2026. Hydro One contacts only the candidates it selects for an interview. Hydro One Management reviews all applications after the deadline. They shortlist the top candidates for interviews, rank them based on their scores, and then choose the winners. Ask Hydro One during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Hydro One whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be a woman-identifying student studying engineering at the undergraduate level in an accredited Ontario university. You must be a Canadian citizen or a landed immigrant enrolled in full-time study and you must be returning to school on a full-time basis. You need a minimum B+ GPA and strong oral and written communication skills. While preference will be given to electrical engineering students, you can still apply if you have completed a minimum of two year of engineering studies in other areas of specialization, such as civil, software, systems, and computer engineering. Finally, you must be engaged in outreach, volunteer, or educational activities with younger girls.

How to apply

  1. Read the award's official page

Save a copy, and submit at least a day before the deadline shown above.

Tips for applying

  • OutreachAvoid just listing the organizations where you volunteered. Instead, describe the specific impact you had on the younger girls you mentored. Mention a specific project or activity you led.
  • ResumeAvoid using generic templates that hide your technical skills. Instead, highlight your engineering projects and any previous work experience. Ensure your resume is updated and formatted clearly.
  • StrategyAvoid using AI tools to write your cover letter or responses. Instead, use your own personal voice and stories to show Hydro One who you are. They explicitly want to hear your authentic perspective.
  • RealismAvoid assuming the work term is guaranteed regardless of your school's rules. Instead, check with your university's co-op or career office to see how a paid term fits into your program.
