About this award

You can receive up to $121.15 per week of study, which totals $4,119 for a normal 34-week program. As a bursary, this money is yours to keep — there is nothing to repay. Note that the grant gradually goes down as your family income goes up. This is for you if you are a full-time student from Prince Edward Island who needs financial support based on your family's total income. No deadline is posted publicly — before you start the application, check Government of Prince Edward Island's program page or call their office to confirm when applications open and close this year. You will be notified of your eligibility as part of the student loan assessment process. Selection is based on a needs-assessment of your income and family size. Your income is assessed as part of your student loan application, and you are told whether you are eligible. The award may be credited directly to your school account in the fall, early in the new calendar year, or both. In other words, it may be split into two payments. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Government of Prince Edward Island whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must meet all of these criteria: You must be a student who meets Prince Edward Island residency requirements as stated in the provincial student loan criteria. You must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a protected person, with a valid Social Insurance Number. You must be enrolled in full-time, post secondary education at either UPEI (University of Prince Edward Island), Holland College, Maritime Christian College, or Collège de l'Île, leading to an undergraduate degree, certificate, or diploma. Finally, your total family income for the previous calendar year (January 1 to December 31) must be less than the income cut-off amount listed on the Government of Prince Edward Island website, which depends on your family size.

Tips for applying

  • IdentificationAvoid sending original documents that you cannot replace. Instead, provide a clear copy of your Social Insurance Number (SIN) card or a formal SIN confirmation letter.
  • StrategyAvoid treating this as a separate application. Instead, focus on completing your provincial student loan application accurately, as this is the only way to be assessed for the bursary.
  • RealismAvoid expecting the maximum amount of $4,119 regardless of your situation. Instead, remember that the grant amount decreases as your family income increases and varies based on your family size.
