Six award streams worth $1,000–$5,000 for refugees and newcomers in BC pursuing post-secondary studies — applications typically open April–May each year.
MOSAIC Awards are a six-stream scholarship portfolio worth $1,000-$5,000 for newcomers, refugees, and immigrants pursuing post-secondary studies in British Columbia. MOSAIC — the Multi-lingual Orientation Service Association for Immigrant Communities — was founded in 1976 in Vancouver by two grassroots agencies that had sprung up to serve immigrant communities the larger system was missing. Almost half a century later, MOSAIC manages a $20-million-plus annual budget, employs 350-plus staff, and runs settlement, language, employment, and education services across Greater Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, and online provincially. The streams cover different lived experiences. The Educational Enhancement Awards offer six $5,000 prizes for newcomers entering post-secondary. The Eyob G. Naizghi Scholarship is a $5,000 award if you are a female refugee with leadership aspirations. The Ann & Jo-Ann Sobkow Award gives $3,500 if you are a refugee aged 25 or older entering helping professions like education, healthcare, social work, counselling, or community development. The Dr. Kes Chetty Education Award provides up to three $1,000 prizes for MOSAIC clients pursuing academic or vocational studies. The St. Regis Award gives $2,000 if you are a newcomer enrolled in or accepted to a recognized post-secondary program. Most awards are one-time and you reapply each year, so they bridge a single tuition gap rather than funding full programs. Apply online through the individual award page on mosaicbc.org by April 30. The Dr. Kes Chetty Award is the exception — it works through staff nomination, so if you are already a MOSAIC client, ask your case worker.
