As a bursary, this money is yours to keep and you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are an Indigenous student from one of the designated Alberta communities who needs financial help to cover your education costs. Deadlines come around three times a year on August 1, November 1 and February 1, so aim for whichever one is next. When you apply, ask how and when you'll hear back — whether it is by email, phone, or through a portal. Selection criteria aren't published — ask Seven Generations Energy how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask Seven Generations Energy during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. You must be an Indigenous student attending a post-secondary institution, such as a college, university, technical college, or apprenticeship program. You can be in any program of study at any level of study, regardless of your specific Indigenous affiliation. To qualify, you must be from one of the following: East Prairie Metis Settlement (postal codes T0H 0B3 and T0H 2W0), Gift Lake Metis Settlement (postal codes T0G 0B4 and T0G 1B0), Sucker Lake First Nation, Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, Horse Lake First Nation, or Aseniwuche Winewak Nation (though for this nation, you are eligible once recognized by the Government of Canada). You must also show that you have a demonstrated financial need for help with your education costs.
