What you will need

About this award

You will receive one or more awards valued at a minimum of $3,500. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a law student who balances your studies with a passion for competitive sports, music, fine arts, or fighting for social justice. The June 1, 2026 deadline has passed and this round is closed. Check Calgary Foundation's awards page for the next application window. When you do apply, ask how and when you'll hear back — whether it is by email, phone, or through the application portal. Selection criteria aren't published — ask Calgary Foundation how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. You need to be enrolled full-time in a qualified post-secondary institution in Alberta, Saskatchewan, or British Columbia. Specifically, you must be enrolled in your second year of study or beyond in a Juris Doctor (JD — a professional degree required to practice law) program. You must demonstrate financial need and maintain good academic standing with a cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 2.7 or 70%. Finally, you must show that you are or have been active in competitive sport, music, fine arts, or social justice issues.
