About this award

You can receive $10,000.00. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you have been personally affected by the invasion of Ukraine or other conflicts around the world and are seeking support to continue your education. You must apply by November 1, 2026. When you apply, ask Nipissing University how and when you will hear back — whether it is through email, the portal, or by phone. Ask Nipissing University how many students usually apply, so you can judge your odds. Ask Nipissing University during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed because you are eligible to receive this award only once during your time at Nipissing University.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be pursuing full-time or part-time studies at a publicly-assisted college or university in Ontario during the 2026-27 academic year. You must be a student who was in Ukraine at the time of the invasion, a student indirectly impacted by the Ukraine conflict, or a student impacted by other conflicts around the globe. You also need to demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, community service, or a perseverance of dedication to your education. You are eligible to receive this award only once during your time at Nipissing University; if you have received it before, you cannot apply again.

Tips for applying

  • Personal StatementAvoid writing a generic essay about why you need money. Instead, describe exactly how this scholarship helps you meet your specific academic objectives and show how you meet the merit criteria through your grades or community work. Write a draft that focuses on one or two concrete examples of your perseverance.
  • SupportAvoid submitting a statement without checking it with the 500-word limit. Instead, edit your response to be concise and impactful. Have a teacher or mentor read your statement to ensure your personal impact is clear.
  • StrategyAvoid ignoring the merit criteria in your personal impact statement. Instead, explicitly connect your life experiences to your academic excellence or community participation. Use the supplemental questions as a map for what the committee wants to see.
  • RealismAvoid assuming this is a guaranteed fund if you have won it previously. Instead, remember that you can only receive this award once while attending Nipissing University. Check your previous award history before spending time on the application.
