About this award

You receive a $1,500 award. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a high-achieving domestic student who has maintained a top-tier ranking within your specific faculty and school. You do not need to apply, as you are automatically considered based on your grades. You will hear if you won via notification sent between late-August and late-October. Winners are chosen automatically by the University of British Columbia. They rank students based on the top 24 percentage-graded credits you earned, following UBC Senate award regulations. Ask the University of British Columbia during your notification period how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. To keep this scholarship, you must be registered in 24 credits in your current winter session and continue studying in the same faculty and school. Renewal conditions for subsequent years aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with the University of British Columbia whether it's one-time or renewable.

Who qualifies

You must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada. You must be a domestic student in the top 5% in your undergraduate year, faculty, and school. To qualify, you must have been registered in at least 24 percentage-graded credits in your previous winter session; if you took more, the University of British Columbia uses your top 24 percentage-graded credits to calculate your average. You must also be continuing in the same faculty or school in your current winter session. Note that audited courses, wait-listed courses, summer courses, and Credit/D/Fail courses are not counted toward your average. You are not eligible if you are in a post-baccalaureate program such as Medicine, Dentistry, Law, or Education.
