About this award

For the 2026-2027 academic year, a Level A scholarship provides $481.20 per credit, which totals $7,218.00 per session or $14,436.00 per year for full-time study (equivalent to 30 credits). This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are an international student from any country—excluding France and French-speaking Belgium—who has a very strong academic record. No specific application deadline is posted publicly for the scholarship itself because it is tied to your admission. Before you start, check Université de Montréal's program page or call their office to confirm the admission deadlines for your specific degree. You will receive an email shortly after you accept your offer of admission to let you know if you are eligible and the amount you will receive. Selection is based solely on the excellence of your academic record. The university evaluates the transcripts you provide during your admission application to determine if you qualify for Level A or Level B; if your file does not meet these levels, you will not receive the exemption. The money is deducted directly from your tuition fees rather than being sent as a cash payment. This means you will see a lower balance on your student account. To keep the scholarship, you must remain continuously enrolled full time for your entire study program unless the university approves an absence. Renewal conditions aren't listed beyond this enrollment rule—if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Université de Montréal what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You are eligible if you are an international student, though this excludes students from France and French-speaking Belgium. You must have received an offer of admission to a bachelor's degree program at Université de Montréal. As of the Winter 2024 session, you cannot be enrolled in an independent study program or short undergraduate program, such as a certificate, major, minor, short program, or preparatory year program for university studies. You must also have valid study authorizations, including your CAQ (Québec Acceptance Certificate — the document allowing you to study in the province) and a study permit for all sessions of your program. Finally, you cannot benefit from any other form of tuition fee exemption.

Tips for applying

  • Academic RecordAvoid submitting incomplete or unofficial transcripts during your initial application. Instead, ensure your documents are official and clearly show your highest achievements. Request certified copies of your grades from your previous school well before the admission deadline.
  • Study PermitsAvoid waiting until after your admission to organize your paperwork. Instead, start your CAQ (Québec Acceptance Certificate) and study permit applications as soon as you have your offer. Check the current processing times for your home country to avoid delays.
  • StrategyAvoid searching for a separate scholarship application form. Instead, focus entirely on your admission application, as the university uses those same documents to evaluate you for this award automatically.
  • RealismAvoid assuming you will receive the maximum amount. Instead, remember that the award depends on your academic record and is only granted if you qualify for Level A or B.
