About this award

The University of Calgary ii'taa'poh'to'p ASAP Award is the third stream in U of Calgary's ii'taa'poh'to'p Indigenous Strategy award family. The ASAP Award is distributed annually to one Indigenous student entering U of Calgary's undergraduate programs — including both first-time entrants AND transfer students from other institutions, which is its key distinction from the Excellence — Entrance award (which is first-year-only) and the Excellence — Continuing Students award (which is for already-enrolled UofC students). If you're transferring into U of Calgary from another university or college, this is the ii'taa'poh'to'p award designed for you. Confirmed Indigenous affiliation (any First Nation, Métis, or Inuit identification) is required. Application is through Indspire's central Building Brighter Futures portal with three deadlines per year (August 1, November 1, February 1).

Who qualifies

You qualify for the ii'taa'poh'to'p ASAP Award if you (1) have confirmed Indigenous affiliation; (2) are entering or transferring into an undergraduate program at U of Calgary (any year); (3) submit a complete Indspire application. One award is distributed each annual cycle — selection is competitive among eligible applicants.

Order your transcript1–2 weeks
Your school's registrar can take a week or two.
Ask for reference letters2 weeks
Give your referees at least two weeks' notice, and send them your résumé.
Write your essay
Be specific about what you did and what changed because of it. Proofread it twice.
Submit your application
Save a copy, and submit at least a day before the deadline shown above.

Document any prior post-secondary work clearly if you're transferring — the ASAP Award's distinguishing feature is supporting transfer students into U of Calgary.

If you're a first-time entrant directly from high school, also apply to the Excellence — Entrance award (sibling) — your single Indspire application is evaluated for both, so it's no extra effort.
