What you will need

  • The online mobility award request form (Demande de bourse à la mobilité), at least 4 weeks before you leave
  • A copy of your passport
  • For a practical internship: an internship agreement with the exact dates, signed by the host and by UQAM
  • For a student exchange: no separate request, your exchange application counts

About this award

For 2026/2027 (summer 2026, fall 2026 and winter 2027), the amount depends on the type and length of your stay: $1,000 for 3 to 7 weeks, $2,000 for 8 to 11 weeks, $3,000 for 12 to 15 weeks and $4,000 for 16 weeks or more for a research stay, a practical internship, a thesis cotutelle or a double degree; $2,500 for 12 to 15 weeks and $3,000 for 16 weeks or more for a student exchange or an exchange outside UQAM's agreements; and $1,000 for 3 to 7 weeks or $2,000 for 8 weeks or more for a summer school. A paid practical internship can get less. Funding for double degree and cotutelle stays has run out for 2026/2027, and all awards depend on the funds available. As a mobility grant, this money is yours to keep and does not have to be paid back, though you may have to refund it if you withdraw from your courses or fail. This is for you if you are a UQAM student wanting to gain international experience through a credited exchange, research stay, or internship that is necessary for your degree. You can apply at any time of year, at least 4 weeks before you leave; no award is given after the fact. For a student exchange you do not file a separate request: your exchange application to the International Relations Office (SRI) or the ESG UQAM international support office counts. Summer schools have a fixed date instead (April 1, 2026 for summer 2026 departures). You get an answer by email 6 to 8 weeks after you apply. Awards are given according to the funds available. You receive either a conditional offer or a refusal with an explanation. The award is paid to you in one payment, by direct deposit to a Canadian bank account or by cheque, 6 to 8 weeks after you send your travel documents (if you are away for two terms, you get one payment at the start of each). Send those documents no later than two weeks after you arrive, or the award is cancelled. You must declare the award on your income tax return. To keep this funding, you must remain enrolled full-time at UQAM during your stay, continue your activities full-time at your host institution, and pay your UQAM tuition fees. You can get funding for up to 2 stays per study cycle, with a maximum of 16 weeks per term and 32 weeks per cycle.

Who qualifies

You must be admitted and enrolled full-time in a bachelor's degree, a cumulative bachelor's, a master's, or a doctoral program at the time you apply. You cannot apply if you are in a DESS (Diplôme d'études supérieures spécialisées — a specialized graduate diploma), a short second-cycle program, or if you are currently in a program extension or writing your thesis. You must maintain a minimum cumulative average of 2.8/4.3 for undergraduate students and 3.2/4.3 for graduate students from the time you apply until you depart. By the time you leave, you must have completed a minimum of 24 credits at the undergraduate level or 6 credits at the graduate level. Your stay must be outside of Canada, last for 3 consecutive weeks minimum (where 1 week equals 5 business days, Monday to Friday inclusive), and be recognized or credited by your UQAM program. Note that stays split across more than one establishment or country are not funded. You are not eligible if you already receive a Globalink-Mitacs scholarship.

Tips for applying

  • Program ChoiceAvoid choosing a course that is considered "out of program" or not recognized by your department. Instead, ensure your activity is strictly necessary for your degree and officially credited by UQAM. Check with your academic advisor to confirm the course counts toward your graduation.
  • OrganizationAvoid assuming the SRI (Service des relations internationales — the International Relations Office) handles your travel logistics. Instead, take full responsibility for your hosting contact, admission, registration, and visa applications. Create a checklist of all embassy requirements for your destination country.
