About this award

You can receive between $1,000 and $7,000, though the exact amount depends on the scholarship fund and availability in the year. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. Note that the distribution may be divided into two payments. This is for you if you are a student dedicated to the field of forest conservation. Applications are due May 31 each year, through the online application form on the Canadian Wildlife Federation website. Successful applicants are notified by September 30. You can request only one Canadian Wildlife Federation scholarship per year. Applications are adjudicated by a committee. Selection criteria aren't published — ask Canadian Wildlife Federation how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask Canadian Wildlife Federation during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Canadian Wildlife Federation whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be enrolled full-time in a Canadian post-secondary institution. Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply. If you are a graduate student, you do not need to be in a thesis-based program (a regular program that does not require a research thesis). You must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or the equivalent, and your studies must be in the field of forest conservation.

  • StrategyAvoid focusing only on your grades. Instead, emphasize your passion for forest conservation in your application materials. Connect your coursework to real-world environmental goals.
