About this award

You can receive up to $8,000 during your studies, though the exact amount depends on your specific program of study. Some students may receive this as up to $8,000 over two years. As a scholarship, this money is yours to keep and you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are pursuing a career in the skilled trades and want to develop as a leader in your field. You must apply by July 19, 2026. When you apply, ask Holland College how and when you will hear back — whether it is by email, phone, or through an application portal. Selection criteria aren't published — ask Holland College how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask Holland College during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. To keep this funding, you must maintain a 70% average while enrolled at Holland College. You also have to participate in two leadership or mentorship events throughout the academic year and serve on the planning committee to help design and host these events. If you fail to maintain your grades or attend these events, you will forfeit any further instalments.

Tips for applying

  • ReferenceAvoid providing a generic character reference. Instead, ask a recent teacher or employer who can speak specifically to your skills in the trades. Provide a letter that highlights your reliability and technical aptitude.
  • SupportAvoid submitting a reference letter that is outdated. Instead, ensure your referee is someone you worked with or studied under recently. Contact your former instructor or boss now to secure a fresh letter.
  • StrategyAvoid ignoring the leadership requirement in your application. Instead, show that you are willing to help organize events for other students. Mention any time you have helped lead a project or mentored a peer.
  • RealismAvoid assuming the full $8,000 is guaranteed regardless of your program. Instead, check with Holland College to see the specific amount allocated for your chosen trade. This ensures your financial planning is accurate.
