No fixed dollar amount is posted — the amount depends on your financial need and your EEO budget, which your Financial Aid Counsellor uses to set the bursary value. As a bursary, this money is yours to keep and you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are an undergraduate student participating in an officially recognized off-campus mobility or experiential opportunity, such as a field study or unpaid internship. You can apply at any time during the academic year. Once you have finalized your application and provided all supporting documents, you will usually hear back within a week via a decision posted on Minerva (the McGill student portal) and a follow-up email. Selection depends on your demonstrated financial need and the official recognition of your activity by your Faculty. Final assessments happen only once your plans are firm and all your supporting documents are in. The money may be sent to your fee account in one sum or divided by term, or sent to your bank account by direct deposit. Your Financial Aid Counsellor decides the payment method based on your financial situation and the type of EEO, and payments are timed to match your out-of-pocket expenses. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with McGill University whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.
To qualify, you must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree at McGill University and be in satisfactory academic standing. You must be registered full-time in your EEO (Enriched Educational Opportunity — a recognized experiential learning activity) term, or at least in the term immediately before it. Exceptions are granted if you are deemed full-time because of a documented disability requiring academic accommodation (confirmed by Student Accessibility & Achievement) or as recognized by government aid programs for those with young dependent children. You must also show financial need for your standard costs of attendance. If you are a Quebec, Canadian, or U.S. student, you must apply for and receive the maximum government aid and/or Indigenous Band funding. International students must receive or be eligible for in-course McGill bursaries or loans. Eligible activities are determined by your Faculty and generally include field study courses, unpaid or insufficiently paid internships and research (excluding those on-campus or in affiliated hospitals), research abroad, and the Summer French Immersion Program run by International Student Services. For Music students only, certain music competitions and invitational events are also eligible. You cannot apply if you are paying fees at another institution during a term-away or if you are on a bilateral exchange semester.
