About this award

You can receive approximately $10,000 for one year of advanced study. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a high-achieving McGill student transitioning immediately from your bachelor's degree to graduate research, especially if you plan to study in Europe or the UK. You must apply by April 1, 2027. If you are shortlisted, you will be contacted for a virtual interview via Zoom in early May 2027. You will be informed if you won the award after your final undergraduate examinations are finished. The selection committee reviews your unofficial McGill University transcript and conducts interviews with shortlisted candidates. There are two scholarships available: one for distinction by the Faculty of Arts and one for distinction by the Faculty of Science. If one faculty has no winner, both awards may go to the other faculty. Ask McGill University during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. The scholarship is held for one year, which you must spend on advanced study.

Who qualifies

This award is for McGill University B.Sc. (Bachelor of Science) students graduating in Winter 2027 who are directly entering graduate studies in Fall 2027. You cannot have a gap year between your undergraduate and graduate study. You must use the one year of funding for advanced study; while the committee prefers you choose a British or European university, other institutions approved by the Faculty of Science are also allowed. Faculty of Arts students apply through the Faculty of Arts site, and B.A. & Sc. students should ask AC Science (ac.science@mcgill.ca) which Faculty should assess their application.
