About this award

You can receive up to $3,000 toward your continuing studies. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a Canadian student entering your final year of a welding program who has a deep passion for the industry and wants to help protect public safety through construction standards. You must apply by June 12, 2026. You will be notified of your application status in September 2026. An advisory panel reviews the applications, and the independent Board of Directors of the CWB Welding Foundation (the organization that certifies welding professionals in Canada) makes the final funding decisions. They score you based on your grades (40%), your essay's view on construction standards (30%), your work or volunteer experience (10%), your career goals (10%), and your grammar and presentation (10%). Ask CWB Welding Foundation during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with CWB Welding Foundation whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Tips for applying

  • EssayAvoid using AI tools to write your submission. Instead, write your own original thoughts, as AI-generated submissions will be disqualified. Draft your 1,000-word essay focusing on why construction standards matter for the Canadian public.
  • ReferencesAvoid asking a family member to be a reference. Instead, choose two personal references and at least one supervising faculty member who can speak to your academic performance and suitability for the award.
  • StrategyAvoid just listing your achievements. Instead, connect your academic success and your volunteer or work experience directly to your future career goals in the welding industry.
  • RealismAvoid ignoring the grading rubric. Instead, ensure your essay is grammatically correct and professionally presented, as this accounts for 10% of your total score.
