About this award

You can receive up to $3,000 toward your continuing studies. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a graduating Canadian secondary school student who is passionate about the welding industry and has a strong record of academic excellence and community involvement. You must apply by June 12, 2026. You will be notified of your application status in September 2026. If you miss this date, check the CWB Welding Foundation's program page or call their office to confirm when applications open and close next year. An advisory panel reviews the applications, and the CWB Welding Foundation's independent Board of Directors makes the final funding decisions. Selection criteria are based on a 100-point scale covering academics, community involvement, work experience, and your essay. Ask CWB Welding Foundation how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask CWB Welding Foundation during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with CWB Welding Foundation whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be a graduating Canadian secondary school student who is currently enrolled in a secondary education program. You must have been accepted into a full-time welding technician or welding engineering technology program offered by a Canadian post-secondary institution. Tips for applying

  • EssayAvoid using AI tools to write your submission. Instead, write your own 1,000-word essay focusing on your career goals and personal challenges. You will be disqualified if the CWB Welding Foundation detects AI-generated content.
  • ReferencesAvoid generic letters of recommendation. Instead, ask a teacher, staff member, or employer to specifically describe your activities in welding and your performance in other courses.
  • StrategyAvoid ignoring the scoring weights. Instead, ensure your essay emphasizes your academic achievements and awards, as this category accounts for 40% of your total score.
  • RealismAvoid assuming the award is guaranteed just by meeting the grade requirements. Instead, remember that you are judged on a 100-point scale that includes your community involvement and the quality of your writing.
