You can receive one scholarship of $1,000, which is awarded annually. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a nursing student who has dedicated your time to volunteering or working with organizations that support people with disabilities. You must apply by July 31. Applications open on February 1. When you apply, ask Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association of Northern Alberta (SBHANA) how and when you will hear back — whether by email, phone, or a portal. Selection criteria aren't published — ask Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association of Northern Alberta (SBHANA) how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association of Northern Alberta (SBHANA) during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association of Northern Alberta (SBHANA) whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.
You must be a Canadian citizen and a resident of Northern Alberta. You must be enrolled in, or accepted to, an accredited nursing program — such as Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) programs — at a publicly funded post-secondary institution in Alberta. You must also demonstrate volunteer involvement or employment with a local disability-related organization.
