About this award

You can receive $1,050.00. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you have a deep commitment to advocating for the community integration of children, youth, or adults with special needs. You must apply by November 1, 2026. When you apply, ask Nipissing University how and when you will hear back — whether it is by email, the portal, or phone. Ask Nipissing University how many students usually apply, so you can judge your odds. Ask Nipissing University during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Nipissing University whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be a full-time student at Nipissing University. You should demonstrate a commitment to and knowledge of advocacy for community integration of children, youth, and/or adults with special needs, which you may have acquired through employment, education, and/or volunteer work. A preference is given to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts program majoring in Child and Family Studies or the Bachelor of Social Work program. Preference is also given to college transfer and mature students.

This is what the award's official page said when we last checked. Rules change, so confirm on the award's official page before you apply.

How to apply

  2. Submit your application

Save a copy, and submit at least a day before the deadline shown above.

Tips for applying

  • AdvocacyAvoid just listing the organizations where you volunteered. Instead, describe a specific time your advocacy helped a person with special needs integrate into their community. Detail the actual impact of your actions.
  • SupportAvoid providing generic character references. Instead, ask a supervisor from your volunteer or employment work to write about your specific skills in supporting people with disabilities. Ensure they use concrete examples of your work.
  • StrategyAvoid leaving your General Application incomplete. Since you are automatically considered based on that form, ensure every section regarding your community involvement is fully detailed before the deadline.
  • RealismAvoid assuming the preferences guarantee a win. Because preference is given to specific majors and mature students, focus your application on proving your direct experience with special needs advocacy to stand out.
