About this award

The scholarship is worth $2,000, to be used for professional development workshops or courses in choral conducting. As a scholarship, this money is yours to keep and you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are an emerging practicing choral conductor who is dedicated to growing your skills in the field of conducting. The last round ran from December 2, 2025 to 2:00 p.m. on February 17, 2026. Applications are usually accepted between December and February, and London Community Foundation says the next round opens in December 2026. Every applicant hears the result by late April. An Awards Committee of five to seven members from London Pro Musica Choir, Amabile Choirs of London, Medway High School and London Community Foundation reviews all applications. Ask London Community Foundation during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with London Community Foundation whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You qualify if you are an emerging practicing choral conductor who lives in Ontario (past ties to the London choral community are welcome) and has formal music education. You must be planning to continue your professional development in choral conducting and use the scholarship for workshops or courses in choral conducting.

Tips for applying

  • Professional GoalsAvoid giving a vague description of your interests. Instead, outline the specific professional development steps you plan to take in the field of conducting. List the workshops or mentors you intend to work with.
  • SupportAvoid submitting references that only know you socially. Instead, provide contacts who can speak to your growth as a practicing conductor. Reach out to former instructors or ensemble members.
  • StrategyAvoid waiting until the final day to submit. Instead, prepare your materials early so you can attend a drop-in session with the London Community Foundation Grants Team. Email lindsay@lcf.on.ca to arrange a meeting if you cannot make the scheduled sessions.
  • RealismAvoid assuming this is the only source of funding you need. Instead, treat this as one part of your overall professional development budget. Contact grants@lcf.on.ca to clarify the award's scope before relying on it for tuition.
