What you will need

About this award

You can receive a $2,500 scholarship. Up to 1,450 scholarships are awarded annually. As a scholarship, this money is yours to keep — there is nothing to repay. This is for you if you are a high-achieving student continuing your studies in an undergraduate or professional program in Alberta. Application deadlines vary by school. For how to apply and the deadline, contact the Student Awards Office at your school, and submit your application there. Selection is based on your academic standing. There are a limited number of scholarships available to each school, and students studying in Alberta are nominated by their school's Student Awards Office. Questions about your school's scholarship policy go to its Student Awards Office. Ask Alberta Student Aid during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Alberta Student Aid whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be a Canadian citizen, a Permanent Resident of Canada, or a Protected Person under Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (visa students are not eligible). You must also be an Alberta resident. To meet the residency rule, one of these must be true: your parent or legal guardian lived in Canada for 12 months before you started school and lives in Alberta; Alberta is where you lived for 12 months before starting school; or your spouse or partner lived in Alberta for 12 months before you started school. You must be enrolled full-time in the second or subsequent year of an undergraduate or professional program at an eligible publicly funded post-secondary institution in Alberta. You must also be in satisfactory academic standing as determined by your school. You are not eligible if you are in a graduate program, are an apprentice, are upgrading, or have been nominated for a Jason Lang Scholarship in the same academic year.
