You can receive $3,000 if you are a full-time student or $1,000 if you are a part-time student. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. If you continue to meet the requirements, you remain eligible for the same level of funding for up to four consecutive years. This is for you if you are a Canadian resident who is Deaf, deafblind, or hard of hearing and wants to break down financial barriers to education. You must apply by April 24, 2026. You will receive a conditional offer in July 2026 if you are selected, and winners are officially recognized in September. A committee of Deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing business leaders and academics reviews your application. They choose winners based on your financial needs, your need for academic accommodations, and your community engagement. Ask Canadian Hearing Services how many awards they typically give out each year so you can judge your odds. Ask Canadian Hearing Services during your application how the money will reach you. Once you submit your final documents—including a void cheque and electronic funds transfer form—the award is distributed. Note that all awards are taxable income; ask Canadian Hearing Services about getting a T4A tax slip if you need one for your taxes. Renewal conditions aren't listed for the full four-year period, but previous recipients must provide proof of registration for Fall 2026, a two-minute video about their goals, and a Scholarship Impact Survey. If you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Canadian Hearing Services what you need to maintain to keep your funding.
To qualify, you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and a Canadian resident who is at least 17 years old. You must be Deaf, deafblind, or hard of hearing with a documented hearing loss of 50dB or greater (pure tone average) in each ear (meaning 50dB or greater in the left ear AND 50dB or greater in the right ear). You must be an undergraduate or graduate student, including mature students, enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution for Fall 2026, whether you are a first-time or returning student.
