About this award

You can receive a $2,500 scholarship. There are two (2) scholarships of $2,500 each available. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a high-achieving student leader or volunteer entering an engineering degree who also has financial need. You must apply by November 3, 2026. When you apply, ask Sheridan College how and when you'll hear back — whether it is by email, phone, or through the awards portal. Ask Sheridan College how many students usually apply, so you can judge your odds. Ask Sheridan College during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Sheridan College whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or if you have refugee or protected-person status in Canada, and a resident of Ontario. You must be entering the first year and be enrolled full-time in the Honours Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) or Honours Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering) program. You must have graduated with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma and achieved the designation of Ontario Scholar. You also need to demonstrate financial need and show at least one of the following from the past two (2) years: leadership qualities through extracurriculars, a commitment to school or community activities like student government, clubs, or team sports, or superior volunteerism well beyond requirements for high school graduation in Ontario. A preference will be given to students who identify as a woman, non-binary, or gender-diverse. Finally, your combined school-administered scholarships for the academic year cannot exceed $10,000, including this award.

Tips for applying

  • VolunteerismAvoid simply listing the hours you volunteered. Instead, describe how your work went well beyond the standard high school graduation requirements in Ontario. Provide a specific example of a project you led or a community need you met.
  • ReferencesAvoid using a generic character reference. Instead, secure a letter of reference from the specific organization where you demonstrated your leadership or volunteerism. Ensure the letter confirms your role and the impact you made.
  • StrategyAvoid ignoring the identity and financial need sections of the application. Instead, clearly explain how receiving this scholarship would impact your ability to attend school. Be honest and specific about your financial situation.
  • RealismAvoid assuming this is a guaranteed award since only two are given. Instead, apply for multiple awards through the Sheridan College portal to increase your chances of funding.
