About this award

You can receive either $1,500 if you achieved a combined GPA of 4.0 or greater from your previous fall and winter semesters, or $1,000 if your combined GPA was between 3.7 and 3.99. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. You can receive this funding for up to three years of your first undergraduate degree. This is for you if you are a high-achieving undergraduate student returning to full-time study after a strong academic year. There is no application and no deadline — check your student account at the start of the fall semester. Recipients are identified automatically from your academic record, based on the GPA and course-load requirements above. The money is automatically applied to your eligible student account at the start of the fall semester. To keep this funding, you must maintain good academic standing and remain enrolled in a minimum 80 per cent course load per term. You can receive an in-course scholarship for up to three years of your first undergraduate degree, once a year at the start of the fall semester, if you meet the GPA and course-load requirements each year.

Who qualifies

You qualify if you are returning to full-time study in the fall semester and were registered in at least an 80 per cent course load during your previous fall and winter semesters. You must have achieved a minimum 3.7 GPA (on a 4.3 scale) during that previous academic year. Note that summer school courses taken immediately before the September term and any upgrading marks are not included in your grade calculations. You may not hold more than one scholarship at the same time. If you have a disability that impacts your ability to take a full course load, the Admissions and Scholarship Committee will review your situation if you meet all other criteria.

Tips for applying

  • SupportAvoid waiting until the fall to check your eligibility if you have a disability. Instead, book an appointment with SAS (Student Accessibility Services — the office that helps students with disabilities get academic accommodations) to discuss your options. Bring any required medical documentation to your meeting.
  • StrategyAvoid changing your program or switching to part-time status without checking the impact on your funding. Instead, talk to an academic advisor before withdrawing or moving to a co-op placement. This ensures you don't accidentally lose your eligibility for the fall payout.
  • RealismAvoid relying on this money as your only source of funding. Instead, remember that continuation depends on the availability of funds at Ontario Tech University. Maintain a backup financial plan in case the funding pool changes.
