What you will need

  • No application needed — Ontario Tech awards this automatically based on the grade average of your best six 4U/4M courses (or equivalent)

About this award

You can receive entrance award of $4,000 if your average is 95 per cent or higher, $2,000 for 90 to 94.9 per cent, or $1,000 for 85 to 89.9 per cent. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. If you keep at least an 80 per cent course load and return to full-time studies, you may also receive an in-course scholarship for up to three years of your first undergraduate degree: $1,500 for a combined fall and winter GPA (Grade Point Average — a measure of your average grades) of 4.0 or greater, or $1,000 for a combined GPA of 3.7 to 3.99. This is for you if you are a high school student or a recent high school graduate who has worked hard to achieve a high academic average in your final courses. There is no application and no deadline — these awards are given automatically, and Ontario Tech applies them to eligible student accounts at the start of the fall semester, before the tuition deadline. Winners are chosen automatically based on the grade average of your best six 4U/4M (Grade 12 university or mixed preparation) courses or the equivalent. Selection criteria aren't published beyond these grade brackets — ask Ontario Tech University how many students typically receive these awards each year. These scholarships are applied directly to your account in your first year of study to help pay for your tuition. To get an in-course scholarship in a later year, you must have been registered in at least an 80 per cent course load in your previous fall and winter semesters, earned a combined GPA of 3.7 or greater, and return to full-time studies in the fall. Confirm with Ontario Tech University if there are any other renewal conditions you need to meet.

Who qualifies

These awards are for students who have recently graduated from a Canadian secondary school and start at Ontario Tech within 18 months of graduating. You cannot have attended a post-secondary institution before, you cannot hold more than one entrance scholarship at a time, and you must be enrolled in at least an 80 per cent course load per term. Eligibility is based on the grade average of your best six 4U/4M (Grade 12 university or mixed preparation) courses or the equivalent. To qualify for the specific amounts, you need an average of 85 to 89.9 per cent (for $1,000), 90 to 94.9 per cent (for $2,000), or 95 per cent or higher (for $4,000).
