About this award

Depending on which award you win, you can receive between $500 and $3,000. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. Specific awards include the R.J. (Bob) Evans Memorial Scholarship by OS&B at $3,000, the MCAC (Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada — the national body representing the mechanical contracting industry) Associate Members Scholarship at $2,000, and several others such as the Bradford White Canada, EquipCo Ltd., Masco / Delta, and Watts Water Technologies scholarships at $1,500 each. Other awards range from $500 for Uponor Scholarships to $1,250 for The Dirty Seahorse. This is for you if you are pursuing a career in the mechanical contracting industry and have a strong tie to an MCAC (Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada) member company through employment, apprenticeship, or membership. You must apply by September 18, 2026. When you apply, ask Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCAC) and Construction Education Council how and when you will hear back — whether it is by email, phone, or a portal. Selection criteria aren't published — ask Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCAC) and Construction Education Council how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCAC) and Construction Education Council during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCAC) and Construction Education Council whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be enrolled full-time in a post-secondary program (such as a degree, diploma, certificate, or apprenticeship) at an accredited Canadian institution. You need a minimum "B" average from your previous academic year. You must also show a clear connection between your field of study and the mechanical contracting industry. To qualify, you must fit one of these three categories: you are a Student Chapter Member, you are an apprentice of an MCAC (Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada) member company, or you are the child or ward of a salaried employee of an MCAC member company whose membership has been active for at least one year. Finally, you cannot apply if you have already received a major scholarship or bursary.

Tips for applying

  • Field ConnectionAvoid giving a vague description of your studies. Instead, explain exactly how your specific program prepares you for a career in mechanical contracting. Describe one project or course that links your education to the industry.
  • StrategyAvoid applying for every single award in the series regardless of the field. Instead, target the specific awards that match your discipline, such as Engineering or Plumbing, to increase your chances.
  • RealismAvoid ignoring the "major scholarship" rule. Instead, be honest about other funding you have received. If you have won a large award, contact Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCAC) and Construction Education Council to see if you still qualify.
