About this award

Depending on your program, you can receive a total value of $144,300 for Medical Scholarships, paid as $36,075 per academic year, or a total value of $57,980 for Dentistry Scholarships, paid as $14,495 per academic year for a period of four years. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. Funding continues for up to four years if you progress satisfactorily and show financial need each year. This is for you if you are entering the first year of the Doctor of Medicine (MD — a medical degree) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS — a dental degree) program and have demonstrated financial need along with strong academic achievement. For the 2026-27 cycle, the medical scholarship deadline has passed. For dentistry, the Schulich Scholarship Supplemental Application is due September 15, 2026. You will hear back through the Student Center or via email; if you are unsure of the notification method, ask Norma Merino at nmerino@uwo.ca. Selection is based on your academic records and financial need. While the number of medical scholarships varies each year, there are exactly 4 scholarships available for dentistry. Selection criteria aren't published in detail — ask Western University - Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry how they weigh grades versus financial need so you can judge your odds. Ask Western University - Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. To keep this funding for up to four years, you must progress satisfactorily in your studies and continue to demonstrate financial need each year. You will receive renewal information each spring or summer. Confirm with Western University - Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry if there are specific GPA minimums you must maintain.
