About this award

You can receive a $2,500.00 award. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you have roots in a rural community and are committed to supporting those areas. You must apply by November 1, 2026. When you apply, ask Nipissing University how and when you will hear back — whether it is by email, the portal, or phone. Two recipients will be selected annually. Ask Nipissing University how many students usually apply, so you can judge your odds. Ask Nipissing University during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Nipissing University whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be a Canadian citizen enrolled at Nipissing University in any year of study and any program. You must also come from a rural community as defined by Statistics Canada (the national agency that collects and analyzes census data).

This is what the award's official page said when we last checked. Rules change, so confirm on the award's official page before you apply.

Tips for applying

  • Supplementary QuestionAvoid giving a vague answer about liking the countryside. Instead, explain exactly how your specific degree will help you create solutions for issues affecting rural Ontario. Describe one concrete project or policy you want to champion.
  • StrategyAvoid focusing only on your personal history. Instead, balance your roots in a rural area with a forward-looking plan for advocacy. Show the school how your education translates into direct benefit for rural residents.
  • RealismAvoid assuming this is a guaranteed fund since only two recipients are selected annually. Instead, treat this as a competitive supplement to your main funding. Apply to several other awards at Nipissing University to diversify your options.
