This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. Depending on the total value, the payment may be split across more than one term. This is a one-time award and is non-renewable (one year only). This is for you if you are a domestic student in your second year of the Masters in Library and Information Science (listed as MI LIS: the Master of Information, Library & Information Science concentration) who wants to build a career in the public library system. You apply through the Faculty of Information's In-Course Awards Application for continuing graduate students (year 2 and up); one form covers all of the Faculty's in-course awards. The award page lists "October 18th" but also says the deadline is the In-Course Awards Application deadline, and the Faculty's awards page gives that as August 20, 2026 for the 2026/27 application. Confirm the current date with the Awards Committee (awards.ischool@utoronto.ca). If you are chosen, the Awards Committee will tell you by email. The award goes to a student with high academic standing who has shown an interest in a career in the public library system. It is not based on financial need, and the number of awards varies from year to year. Ask Faculty of Information (iSchool), University of Toronto during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition.
