About this award

You can receive a $1,000 bursary. As a bursary, this money is yours to keep — there is nothing to repay. This is for you if you are finishing your aviation training and have a strong record of professionalism and work ethic. You must apply by January 22, 2027. When you apply, ask Confederation College how and when you will hear back — whether by email, phone, or through a portal. Selection criteria aren't published — ask Confederation College how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask Confederation College during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Confederation College whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

You must be enrolled in an Aircraft Maintenance program at one of the participating Ontario colleges and be in the final semester of your studies. You need to show a need for financial support and demonstrate the honesty, integrity, professionalism, and strong work ethic expected of an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer. While you do not need the highest Grade Point Average (GPA — the average of all your final grades), all your grades must be above 70% and your attendance must be excellent. Finally, you must be on track to graduate with full Transport Canada (the federal agency that regulates aviation safety) Accreditation.

Tips for applying

  • ProfessionalismAvoid giving generic answers about being a hard worker. Instead, provide a specific example of a time you took leadership or showed integrity in the hangar. Describe the exact situation and the result.
  • StrategyAvoid focusing only on your grades. Instead, emphasize your soft skills like safe work ethics and competence, as the award prioritizes these traits over having the highest GPA.
  • RealismAvoid assuming your 70% average makes you a lock for the money. Instead, remember that you also need to prove financial need and excellent attendance to be competitive.
