About this award

You can receive up to $4,000 per year to cover up to 50% of your annual tuition cost. This is a grant, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. Depending on your program and tuition requirements, the money may be split into two payments. Because the total fund is $4,000, RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) officials may choose to distribute this amount among up to 3 students. This is for you if you are a prospective student facing financial barriers that might otherwise stop you from attending post-secondary education. You must apply by September 30th. When you apply, ask RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) how and when you will be notified of the decision — whether by email, phone, or the application portal. Selection criteria aren't published — ask RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. To keep this funding for future terms, you must maintain satisfactory grades of C+ or greater. If you keep your GPA (Grade Point Average — the average of all your final grades) at this level, you are not required to reapply for the continuation of the award. However, funds will not be provided for later terms if you withdraw from your program or fail to meet these minimum grades.

Who qualifies

You must reside in the South East region and demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to you if you are a Southeastern Manitoba resident of the Piney, Reynolds, Stuartburn, La Broquerie, Ste Anne, Taché, or Hanover municipalities, including the urban municipalities of Ste Anne and Steinbach, and if you are accepted to a program at Red River College Polytechnic Steinbach Campus.

  • StatementAvoid writing a generic letter about your grades. Instead, write a short statement that focuses on the specific financial barriers you face and why this support is necessary for you to attend school. Explain exactly how this funding changes your ability to enroll.
  • ProofAvoid sending vague addresses or utility bills that don't clearly show your name. Instead, provide official documentation that proves you live in the South East Manitoba region. Ensure the document is current and legible.
  • StrategyAvoid forgetting to specify the award name. Instead, clearly write "Atticus Award to Support South East Manitoba Region" on your general application form. This ensures your file is routed to the correct committee.
  • RealismAvoid assuming this will cover your entire tuition bill. Instead, remember that this award is capped at $4,000 or 50% of your annual tuition. Plan your other funding sources around this limit.
