About this award

You can receive one of two $2,500.00 bursaries available annually. As a bursary, this money is yours to keep — there is nothing to repay. This is for you if you have a strong academic record and have given back to your community through service, but need financial help to afford your studies. You must submit your application by March 1st. No notification timeline is posted publicly — when you apply, ask the Cattlemen's Martin Riedemann Society how and when you'll hear back. The Cattlemen's Martin Riedemann Society selects the winners. Selection criteria aren't published — ask them how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask the Cattlemen's Martin Riedemann Society during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed, but the rules state you will not be eligible to apply again if you have already won this award. If you haven't won before, confirm with the Cattlemen's Martin Riedemann Society if you can apply in future years.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must have graduated (or will graduate this spring) from a secondary school within British Columbia and east of a line from Hope to Terrace with a B average or higher. You must be registered, or in the process of registering, in a recognized post-secondary institution (trade school, college, university) within Canada. Additionally, you must show financial need to continue your education and provide proof of community service.

Tips for applying

  • Community ServiceAvoid just listing the organizations where you volunteered. Instead, describe the specific impact your work had on others. List one concrete project where you took the lead.
  • StrategyAvoid submitting a generic application. Instead, highlight your connection to the BC interior and your specific goals for your post-secondary program. Mention why this specific funding is necessary for you to attend school.
  • RealismAvoid assuming you will win based on grades alone. Instead, remember that there are only two awards available each year. Apply for several other bursaries to ensure you have enough funding for your tuition.
