About this award

You get $7,500 per academic year until you obtain your first degree. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a high-achieving Canadian engineering student moving into your second year of study. UBC's last posted deadline was May 15, 2025, at 3:00 PM PST, and UBC Engineering says details for the 2026 competition have not been announced yet. Check the Faculty of Applied Science awards page for the next deadline before you apply. You must be nominated by an eligible institution, such as the University of British Columbia (UBC). UBC's Faculty of Applied Science collects the applications and decides whom to put forward, because the awarding agency limits how many students any one faculty or institution can nominate. Ask UBC's Faculty of Applied Science how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. The scholarship pays $7,500 for each academic year until you finish your first degree. UBC's page doesn't list what you need to keep it each year, so ask the Faculty of Applied Science.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada. You must have completed the first-year program in a Canadian faculty of engineering and intend to continue your studies in engineering. You must be entering the second year of your bachelor of engineering degree program (or the fourth study term if you are enrolled in a co-op program) in the September after you apply (September 2025 for the last posted competition). Additionally, you must be nominated by an eligible institution and have attained a first class standing as defined by UBC, which is an 80% average or better.
