About this award

You can win one of seven $2,500 scholarships awarded annually. As a scholarship, this money is yours to keep and you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a student passionate about the future of Canadian farming and the food industry. The 2026 deadline was 5:00 PM ET on April 30th, 2026, and winners were told by May 31st, 2026. The scholarships are given every year; check CABEF's scholarships page for the next deadline. Winners are chosen based on your leadership attributes and your response to a specific question about emerging issues in Canadian agriculture. CABEF (the Canadian Agri-Business Education Foundation, the organisation that runs these awards) posts judging rubrics for the essay and leadership activities, and the judges' decision is final. The money is sent to you within 30 days after you email your proof of enrolment to the organization. Ask CABEF if the funds are sent directly to you or to your school. Past CABEF scholarship recipients cannot apply again, so you can win it only once.

Who qualifies

You must be a Canadian student enrolled full-time in an undergraduate program related to agriculture or agri-food at a recognized Canadian college, university, or trade school. You must be entering your 1st year, or currently enrolled in your 2nd or 3rd year of study. Note that students in their final year of study are not eligible. Additionally, graduate, post-graduate, and professional degree programs—including but not limited to MSc (Master of Science), MBA (Master of Business Administration), DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine), MD (Doctor of Medicine), and JD (Juris Doctor)—are not eligible. You must be at least 16 years of age at the time of application. You cannot apply if you have previously received a CABEF scholarship or if you are an immediate family member of a CABEF Board member. Seven $2,500 scholarships are awarded annually across three regions: 2 in Western Canada (BC, AB, Territories and Yukon), 2 in Central Canada (SK, MB and Nunavut), and 3 in Eastern Canada (ON, QC and Atlantic).

  • RealismAvoid ignoring the AI-detection warning. Instead, use AI only for light grammar and spelling checks. If more than 40% of your work is flagged as AI-generated, you will be disqualified.
