What you will need

About this award

You can receive a $5,000 scholarship. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a student from a racialized community who is passionate about reporting on science and the environment. Applications for the 2025-26 school year closed April 30, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ET. CBC and RTDNF Canada (the Radio Television Digital News Foundation, which runs the scholarship) renewed it for three more years, so check the RTDNF Canada scholarships page for the next deadline. When you apply, ask RTDNF Canada how and when you will hear back about your application. Selection criteria aren't published — ask RTDNF Canada how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Who qualifies

RTDNF Canada also requires that you are currently enrolled in a Canadian broadcast or digital journalism course at a college or university, and that you are a Canadian citizen, landed immigrant, or hold a Canadian work visa.
