About this award

You will receive a minimum of $1,000. This is a scholarship, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are a nursing student who cares deeply about bedside care and wants to specialize in emergency nursing. You must apply by August 29th each year. Since the recipient is selected after the fall deadline, ask RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) when you can expect to hear back and if they notify you by email or the portal. Selection criteria aren't published — ask RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — since this is for graduating students, confirm with RRC Polytech (Red River College Polytechnic) if it is a one-time payment or if there are other conditions to meet.

Tips for applying

CompassionAvoid writing a generic statement about liking nursing. Instead, describe a specific moment during your Senior Practicum where you eased a patient's suffering. Use a real example to show your bedside manner.
ReferencesAvoid a general character reference. Instead, ask a preceptor or faculty member who supervised you in an emergency setting to write your letter. Ensure they mention your clinical skills and compassion.
StrategyAvoid forgetting the award name on your form. Instead, clearly write "Christiane Bonin Memorial Award" on the General RRC Polytech Application so your file goes to the right committee.
RealismAvoid waiting until the last minute to gather your papers. Instead, download the supplemental form from the Nursing Repository early. Give your referee plenty of time to write your letter before the August 29th deadline.
