About this award

Depending on which award you qualify for, you can receive different amounts. For the Canada Scholars Awards, you get between $1,500 and $4,000 per year based on your admission average. The Canada Transfer Student Award provides a one-time payment of $2,000. The Canada Scholars Awards for Indigenous Students provides $3,000 per academic year. These are grants, not loans, so you do not have to pay them back. This is for you if you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living outside of Quebec who is starting an undergraduate degree and wants to maintain your academic momentum at a university in Montreal. No specific application deadline is posted publicly for the automatic awards — however, you must be a Winter 2027 applicant. Before you start your admission process, check Concordia University's program page or call their office to confirm the exact closing date for Winter 2027 admissions. The Canada Scholars Awards program is ending: winter 2027 applicants are the last group eligible, and Concordia points fall 2027 applicants to its new Undergraduate Excellence Awards. Most of these awards are given automatically to every student who meets the eligibility criteria at the admission assessment. There is no separate application for the general and transfer awards. For the Indigenous award, you must complete a specific form. Ask Concordia University during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Note that Transfer Student Awards are specifically awarded in December after the Quebec residency deadline has passed. To keep the Canada Scholars Awards or the Indigenous award for the normal duration of your degree, you must continuously meet the eligibility criteria. This includes completing at least 24 credits in the previous academic year, being enrolled in at least 24 credits in the current year with no gap years, and having at least 24 credits left to complete. For the general Canada Scholars Award, you must also maintain a minimum 3.3 GPA. If you fail to meet these, you will lose eligibility for all subsequent terms.

Who qualifies

You are eligible if you are a Canadian student or permanent resident from outside of Quebec applying for Winter 2027 undergraduate studies. For the Canada Scholars Awards, you must be finishing high school in Canada outside Quebec, applying to a bachelor's degree, enrolling in a post-secondary institution for the first time and taking at least 24 credits in 2027, with an admission average of B- or higher (the amount depends on your average). Applicants admitted with a C+ average, mature-entry and second-degree applicants, independent students, applicants to certificate, bridging, microprogram or Continuing Education programs, and current Concordia students are not eligible for this one. You must pay the out-of-province tuition rate; if you qualify for Quebec residency, you are not eligible. For the Canada Transfer Student Award, you must be transferring from a Canadian college or university outside Quebec with a minimum GPA of 3.3. For the Canada Scholars Awards for Indigenous Students, you must be a First Nations, Inuit, or Métis person in Canada applying for a bachelor's degree, certificate, or Bridging Program (a program that helps you transition into a degree) for Winter 2027, enrolling in at least 24 credits.
