As a bursary, this money is yours to keep and does not have to be paid back, though it is designed to help you recover in the short-term rather than cover the entire cost of your emergency. This is for you if you are a Conestoga College student experiencing a sudden financial crisis beyond your control that directly impacts your ability to finish your current term. You must submit your application within 30 days of when the emergency occurred. To apply, email emergencybursary@conestogac.on.ca with your Conestoga student ID and a description of your emergency. Conestoga College awards bursaries on the basis of financial need; academics are not considered. Ask Conestoga College how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be residing in Ontario and be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, protected person (someone with refugee or protected-person status in Canada), or an international student on a valid study permit. You must be enrolled in and currently attending a full-time program at Conestoga College or have an approved accommodated reduced course load. The emergency must have occurred within the past 30 days and must be a crisis that could not have been reasonably budgeted for. You are not eligible if you are on a co-op or GCM (Career Management in Canada) term, completing an apprenticeship, or receiving Better Jobs Ontario (a provincial retraining grant) funding. Note that funding shortfalls for tuition, rent, food, OSAP (Ontario Student Assistance Program — the provincial student loan and grant program) delays, routine medical costs, or personal debts do not qualify.
