About this award

You can receive $4,000 from this award. As a scholarship, this money is yours to keep — there is nothing to repay. This is for you if you are a student athlete or sports leader in the Yellowknife community who balances your studies with a passion for softball, curling, or golf. You must apply through the online portal between April 2 and May 31 at 11:59 PM MT. You will hear back in mid-to-late July when the Yellowknife Community Foundation distributes the funding to recipients. Selection criteria aren't published — ask Yellowknife Community Foundation how winners are chosen and roughly how many applicants they typically receive so you can judge your odds. Ask Yellowknife Community Foundation during your application how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. Renewal conditions aren't listed — if you're counting on this for multiple years, confirm with Yellowknife Community Foundation whether it's one-time or renewable and what you need to maintain.

Who qualifies

To qualify, you must be a resident of Yellowknife for at least twelve consecutive months. You must be pursuing full-time post-secondary studies and be active in softball, curling, or golf as a player, coach, or official.

This is what the award's official page said when we last checked. Rules change, so confirm on the award's official page before you apply.

Tips for applying

• Sports InvolvementAvoid just mentioning the sport you play. Instead, describe your specific role as a player, coach, or official and how you contribute to the game. List the specific leagues or clubs where you are active.
• StrategyAvoid waiting until the end of May to apply. Instead, create your profile on the Yellowknife Community Foundation portal as soon as it opens on April 2. This gives you time to complete the eligibility quiz without rushing.
• RealismAvoid assuming this is a guaranteed grant based on residency alone. Instead, remember that you must meet both the Yellowknife residency requirement and the specific sports activity criteria to be considered.
