About this award

The bursary is worth $4,000 in total, paid as $1,000 per year for up to four years if you keep meeting the renewal conditions. This is a bursary, not a loan, so you do not have to pay it back. This is for you if you are an incoming student who wants to continue your education in French while studying other subjects. There is no application and no deadline: the bursary is awarded automatically to eligible students, and the University of Ottawa informs recipients. It is awarded to full-time French Immersion Stream students who take at least 2 courses (6 units) taught in French each term. Some exceptions may apply if you are on an international exchange or in a program where you cannot take the required number of credits in French; contact Financial Aid and Awards for details. Ask Financial Aid and Awards at the University of Ottawa how the money will reach you — some awards pay students directly, others apply funds to tuition. Confirm this so you can plan your cash flow. To keep this award for the three following years, you must remain a full-time student in the French Immersion Stream and take at least 2 courses (6 units) each term taught in French. You also need to maintain a minimum CGPA (cumulative grade point average — your overall average grade across all courses) of 5.5 at the end of each academic year.
